BEIJING, April 3 -- An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale jolted 40 km southwest of Iquique, Chile on Thursday Beijing time, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 20.5 degrees south latitude and 70.4 degrees west longitude.
