TOYKO, Jan. 9 -- An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted 34km SE of Shizunai, Japan at 04:31:54 GMT on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 58.24 km, was initially determined to be at 42.0913 degrees north latitude and 142.6227 degrees east longitude.
