S. Korea slams DPRK's repeated condemnation of President Park

SEOUL, Oct. 7 -- South Korea on Monday denounced the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s repeated condemnation of President Park Geun-hye by her name.

"It is very regrettable that North Korea (DPRK) recently continues its raw criticism (against President Park)," Seoul's Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Eui-do told a press briefing.

Kim said that the DPRK should immediately stop its condemnation of President Park and her government, urging Pyongyang to take sincere attitude to develop inter-Korean relations.

His comments came after the DPRK's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said Saturday that "Park Geun-hye and her cohorts" should act prudently and accept Pyongyang's criticism, repeating its condemnation of Seoul's head of state by name.

The DPRK's Policy Department of the National Defense Commission said Friday that if "Park Geun-hye and her cohorts" seek ruthlessly to dismantle Pyongyang's nuclear program and subvert its regime in collusion with foreign power under the pretext of causing changes in the DPRK, it would equal to "digging its own grave."

It was the third time the DPRK denounced President Park by name since she took office in February. The latest occurred in July.

Regarding the repeated denunciation, spokesman Kim said that the DPRK has lasted its flak towards South Korea at its pleasure all through the year, noting that the stronger tone of recent criticism may stem from the worsened relations between the two Koreas.

The inter-Korean ties strained after the DPRK unilaterally announced its decision to delay the reunion event of the separated families since the 1950-53 Korean War broke out. The two Koreas originally planned to hold the event last month in the DPRK's Mount Kumgang resort.
