Khartoum, Sept. 27 -- Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday summoned the U.S. charge d'affairs in Khartoum to protest against the delaying of issuance of entry visa for Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir to attend the UN General Assembly, official SUNA news agency reported.

The Sudanese undersecretary of foreign affairs informed the U.S. charge d'affairs that "With non-issuance of the entry visa for President al-Bashir until now, the U.S. crippled Sudan's participation in important activities in New York that aimed to achieve peace and stability in Sudan and the region."

Sudanese Foreign Ministry on Thursday refuted reports that President al-Bashir had decided not to participate in the UN General Assembly in New York, renewing its request for the U.S. administration to issue visa for him.

On Wednesday, a UN spokesperson was reported to have said that President al-Bashir decided not to travel to New York and that the UN Protocol Office had affirmed Sudan's cancelation of its participation in the UN General Assembly.

Early this week, al-Bashir affirmed that he would attend the UN meetings, reiterating that his participation was a genuine right that no country could deny him.

Last week, the U.S. State Department said it received the visa application of President al-Bashir, but noted he should not make such a trip because he was accused of war crimes.

In 2009, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against al-Bashir for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the country's restive region of Darfur, which was rejected by Khartoum.
