A group of unidentified gunmen stormed a house in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad and shot dead six people from one family, including three children, an Interior Ministry source said Wednesday.
The armed men broke into the house in al-Shaab district in northeastern Baghdad around noon, killing a man, two women and three children, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Iraqi security forces sealed off the area and launched an investigation into the incident, the source said.
Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in recent years, which raises fears that the country is sliding back to full- blown civil conflict that peaked in 2006 and 2007, when monthly death toll sometimes exceeded 3,000.
