TRINKOT, Afghanistan, Sept. 13 -- Eighteen Taliban militants including a local commander have been killed as Afghan forces launched mop up in Charchino district of the southern Uruzgan province on Thursday, a statement of the provincial government released here Friday said.
"Security forces launched cleanup operation in Charchino district on Thursday and so far 18 rebels including a Taliban local military leader Mawlawi Islam have been killed," the statement added.
Twelve more militants have been captured, it contended, adding the operation is going on.
Taliban militants fighting the government have yet to comment on the claim.
