At least nine persons were killed and several others were missing in landslides due to heavy rains in the southern Indian state of Kerala Monday, said police.
The incident took place at the hilly Idukki district of the state, where rivers and canals have been swelling due to heavy rains since Sunday.
The Cochin International Airport at the state's main city was also closed temporarily and two flights diverted due to flooding.
The state's Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has called an emergency cabinet meeting to review the situation and plan relief operations.
Authorities have also warned fishermen not to venture into the sea in the next two days due to high waves caused by wind.
