SEOUL, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese workers were killed and another injured after an under-construction ramp leading to a Han River bridge collapsed Tuesday, police said.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. local time (0400 GMT) on the southern part of Banghwa Bridge in western Seoul when heavy equipment fell from the entrance ramp and crushed the workers, local media reported.

Four workers, all Chinese nationals, were working at the construction site on the ramp, municipal officials said. The fourth was unharmed.

"Two workers were killed and another injured. The injured has been sent to hospital," a municipal official said at the rescue site.

Chinese Consul General in Seoul He Ying confirmed the victims were Chinese nationals. The Chinese embassy demanded South Korean authorities provide emergency treatment to the injured, quickly find out the cause of the accident, and properly cope with the aftermath of the accident.

Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon rushed to the scene and expressed sorrow over the tragedy.

Police said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. Municipal authorities will launch a separate probe into the firms in charge of the construction.
