WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday night used the State of the Union address to formally lay out his second-term agenda and generate public support to deal with the "unfinished tasks."

"Together, we have cleared away the rubble of crisis, and can say with renewed confidence that the state of our union is stronger," said Obama.

Obama began the address with an important portion on economic recovery and job creation, trying to align his administration with the middle class and engage the public.

"It is our generation's task, then, to reignite the true engine of America's economic growth -- a rising, thriving middle class," he said.

The president, emboldened by his success over Republican challenger Mitt Romney in the presidential election last year, is also expected to build on the other themes of his second inaugural address on January 21.
