Russia to change plans of military construction because of NATO

Russia will make changes in plans of military construction, while NATO will be creating its military infrastructure close to its borders, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov who made a stopover in Oslo en route to the United States, told reporters on Sunday. He will participate in a conference in Norfolk on the role of the military in struggle against terrorism, organized under the aegis of the Russia-NATO Council.

"The four NATO planes, patrolling the air space of the Baltic countries, do not change the situation radically. However, if construction of NATO military infrastructure close to our borders continues, this will really prompt making changes in our plans of military construction," the Russian minister said.

In any case the strength of the Russian Armed Forces will inevitably increase in the near future thanks to incorporation of railway troops and other structures, the minister added.

The ministry will have three services. "Two of them are renamed former committees. There will be another agency of special construction which will conduct work on building reliable and rock-firm projects in the interests of not only the Defence Ministry, but also of all force-wielding structures and the entire state," the minister noted.
