AIDS education launched in rural areas

The China Youth Development Foundation launched its rural AIDS education program Friday in Xiaxian county, north China's Shanxi province.

The China Youth Development Foundation launched its rural AIDS education program Friday in Xiaxian county, north China's Shanxi province.

It was one of the key programs of the "Red Ribbon Action" launched by the foundation on Nov. 17, 2003, said Yang Xiaoyu, deputy secretary-general of the foundation.

Yang said the program would involve all 100 key areas of AIDS prevention and control, which were set by the Ministry of Health, and for the first step, they would bring simple but systematic AIDS knowledge to over 140,000 villagers of Xiaxian county.

The teachers, who come from the county and had received specialtraining in Beijing, would work for the next three years.

Yang said the China Youth Development Foundation would help local government to popularize education among the people in of China's rural areas.
