The delayed Arab summit will be held within the next three to seven weeks, Arab League chief Amr Moussa said in Cairo on Monday.
"A call for convening the summit at the earliest date does not necessarily mean that we want the summit to be held in the coming few days," Moussa said after a joint meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher and visiting Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal.
Moussa expressed the belief that the summit will be held within three to seven weeks at the latest.
"The current dangerous situation, both in the Arab and world arenas, makes it imperative that Arab leaders get together as earlyas possible," he said.
"The Arab nation must find a way to deal with the aftermath of the postponement," he said.
Egypt offered on Sunday to host the summit, which was delayed byTunisia one day earlier due to what it termed divergence over proposals on the reform of the Arab world.
"Egypt welcomes the convening of the summit in the country of the headquarters of the Arab League at the earliest possible time that can be agreed on," Mubarak's office said in a statement on Sunday.
As for the impact of the Egyptian proposal on its ties with Tunisian, Moussa said, "Egypt and Tunisia are sisterly countries, and I am sure that Egypt's offer would not cause any sour feelings that could affect their future relations."
"We just want to save the situation," he said.
He said that he was planning to embark on an Arab tour starting as early as next week to continue discussions on the related matter.
