Senior trade officials from China and the United States gathered here on Friday and started to arrange a top joint business meeting to be held next month in Washington.
The US delegation held discussions with Chinese Vice-Minister of Commerce Ma Xiuhong and met with the Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai.
The two sides exchanged views on the schedule of the 15th meeting of the Sino-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade, bilateral trade and economic cooperation and issues of mutual concern. The scheduled two-hour talks and half-hour meeting were extended to nearly three hours and one-and-half hours separately, sources said.
The consultation will last for two days, sources noted.
China and the United States agreed to upgrade the Sino-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade during Premier Wen Jiabao's US tour last December.
The 15th meeting of the commission, to be held this spring, will be co-chaired by Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi, US Secretary of Commerce Donald Louis Evans and Trade Representative Robert B. Zoellick.
That meeting will serve to enhance mutual understanding and calm trade disputes between the two major trade partners, especially in the US election year, according to analysts.
