India on Thursday successfully test-fired its most sophisticated short-range missile Trishul from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in central India's Orissa state.

Indigenously developed by India's Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO), the surface-to-air missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher at about 2.52 p.m., the Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted defense sources as saying.

The solid fuel propelled Trishul missile has a triple battlefield role for the army, air force and navy and has a range of nine km with the capacity of carrying a payload of 15 kg, PTI said.
