About 10,000 demonstrators march in Paris against Iraq war

About 10,000 people demonstrated here on Saturday afternoon on the first anniversary of the US-led war against Iraq.

About 10,000 people demonstrated here on Saturday afternoon on the first anniversary of the US-led war against Iraq.

The objective of the march is to "say no to wars, terrorist attacks and violence against the people," its organizers say.

The demonstrators marched from the Square of Bastille to the Square of Chatelet, under the banner writing "All for peace and justice, democracy and law."

Some slogans against American President George W. Bush, BritishPrime Minister Tony Blair, Israeli Premier Ariel Sharon, former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy and Russian President Vladimir Putin were heard inthe procession.

Demonstrators demanded the pullout of the occupation forces from Iraq and the power transfer to Iraqi people. Apart from Paris,anti-war rallies were also staged in other French cities of Marseille, Lyon and Toulouse.
