India test-fires extended version of Prithvi missile

The extended version of "Prithvi", India's most sophisticated medium range surface-to-surface missile, was successfully test fired from the Integrated Test Range(ITR) at Chandipur on Friday.

The extended version of "Prithvi", India's most sophisticated medium range surface-to-surface missile, was successfully test fired from the Integrated Test Range(ITR) at Chandipur on Friday.

The missile has a range of about 150 to 200 kms, defence sources said.

The extended version has been developed for Indian Air Force and was test fired from a mobile launcher at about 10:10 a.m. fromthe ITR in the eastern coast state of Orissa, about 13 km from here, according to a report of the Press Trust of India.

The 8.5-meter-high and one meter thick missile had a perfect lift-off, the PTI quoted the sources as said.

"Prithvi" test firing was part of the continuous effort to further fine tune the missile which has already been inducted into the army.
