"The State Emergency Veterinary and Anti-Epidemic Measure Committee, which was formed in early February, has organized a standing body for implementing the anti-epidemic measures and helpits provincial, city and county committees fully discharge their duty," Kim Hyok Jin, vice-chairman of the committee, told the official Korean Central News Agency.
"Through the mass media, it (the committee) frequently informs the people of the origin of bird flu, measures to prevent it and the countries affected by the epidemic," Kim added.
Kim said migratory bird locations are closely watched and germsand virus contained in dead birds are examined.
"Strict washing, sterilizing and checking of chicken, duck and ostrich farms are being conducted in March-April. Meanwhile, quarantine and hygienic checks are conducted at ports, airports and border areas to prevent the epidemic from infiltrating into the country," said Kim.
"The government is also strengthening cooperation with international organizations to prevent bird flu," Kim said.
No case of bird flu has been reported so far in the country, according to local media.
