China successfully accepts the first electronic patent application

At 9:30am March 13 when Tian Lipu, deputy commissioner of State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), clicked on a mouse an invention patent application represented by Chinantd Intellectual Property called "driving circuit for semiconductor laser unit" was officially accepted by SIPO.

At 9:30am March 13 when Tian Lipu, deputy commissioner of State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), clicked on a mouse an invention patent application represented by Chinantd Intellectual Property called "driving circuit for semiconductor laser unit" was officially accepted by SIPO. This was the first successfully accepted electronic patent application after "China Patent Electronic Application System (CPEAS)" was officially opened and also a present to the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of China's Patent Law. CPEAS is a key project defined in the Tenth Five-Year Plan in the informationization construction of SIPO. Through this system the applicant can complete procedures such as the submission of application documents and information confirmation online, which means faster speed of patent examination and approval process.

Experts believe that the opening of CPEAS made China another country, after the USA, Japan, the ROK and Europe, which can provide online patent application. It also indicates that China has stepped up to a new level in the modernization for the management of intellectual property rights. From now on applicants and agents, after finishing relevant procedures, may log in "China Patent Electronic Application System" (www.cponline.gov.cn) and submit their patent applications to SIPO.
