Millions of people demonstrate in Spain

Spanish demonstration against terrorism

Millions of people gathered on Friday in Madrid and Barcelona to participate in the demonstrations called by the government to protest against the Thursday terror attacks that killed almost 200 people in the Spanish capital Madrid.

Madrid's Plaza de Colon, where the march was set to begin, is full of people despite rain and the traffic caused by road block.

The concentration was staged in one of the main arteries of the city, where the train station affected by two bomb explosion is located.

A 200 medical staff, three advanced medical units and numerous policemen were located along the entire rout of the manifestation.

University students in a corner in Plaza de Colon wave a placard reading "University against terror."

People wearing a black crape swarmed out of the subway stations close to the squares and streets of the rout of the march.

The regional government of Madrid organized the demonstration, whose tail will be in Plaza del Colon square and will be headed for the Cibeles square by the Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, the candidates for the presidency and former presidents.

Meanwhile, in the capital of Catalonia Barcelona, the country's second most important city, hundreds of thousands of people gathered for an hour before the march began.

The motto of the demonstration is "Catalonia with the victims of Madrid, against terrorism, for democracy and the constitution."

The citizens arrived by walking to the meeting point from streets near Paseo de Gracia, where the protest starts. The area has been closed to traffic since mid-afternoon Friday.
