South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun apologized to the nation Friday for the political crisis stemming from the opposition parties's attempt to impeach the president, the South Korean Yonhap News Agency reported.
"I am deeply sorry to the nation for the political crisis and showdown stemming from the impeachment motion," Roh said in a message to Chief of Staff of the Blue House Kim Woo-sik.
Roh urged both the pro-government and opposition parties to resolve the crisis through dialogue.
Roh delivered the message to Kim Woo-sik just before leaving for Jinhae, South Gyeongsang Province, some 400 kilometers southeast to Seoul, to commission graduates of the South Korea Naval Academy.
The message was delivered just minutes before the National Assembly is scheduled to convene at 10 a.m. Friday to cast ballotson the impeachment motion.
But the National Assembly plenary meeting has not opened as schedule due to strong confrontation between the pro-government party and opposition parties at the Parliament.
