A council of "wise men," composed of dignitaries was in the process of appointing a new prime minister to replace Yvon Neptune after the removal of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide last Feb. 29., reports reaching Havana said.
The candidates include businessman Smarck Michel, Lt. General Herard Abraham and the former Foreign Minister Gerar Latourte.
Once the council "of the wise" elects its candidate it will submit its proposal to Haiti's interim President Boniface Alexandre, who was officially sworn in Monday, one week after Aristide's removal.
The first task of the new prime minister will be to form a cabinet and assume responsibility for the police, the only armed corps of the country.
