In an effort to tune up for the Athens Olympics, the Chinese women's national volleyball team arrived at the Zhangzhou Sports Center on Mar. 8 for its month-long closed-door training.

"Our team has the top priority for the 2004 Olympics from the very first day when it was reshuffled," said head coach Chen Zhonghe, "We have a tough year in 2004 since our players have not reached their peak forms despite their teamwork training for three years."

"Our key players are still not strong enough, and some of them are still weak in basic skills," said Chen, "And we have to make progresses in serves, blocks and ace spikes."

From April 8, the Chinese women will play four to five matches against visiting Japanese.
