352 people die of dengue fever in Indonesia

The death toll of the dengue fever across Indonesia has reached 352, while the sufferers have increased to 22,384 since the disease began to hit the country in January, a spokeswoman of the Health Ministry said Wednesday.

Two people died of the disease and 1,625 people became new patients on Wednesday across the country. But the number of provinces experiencing the extraordinary cases decreased to 12 from 13, according to the spokeswoman.

"The number of death toll today increased by 2 across Indonesia,the cumulative number since January becomes 352 people," Mariani Reksoprojo told Xinhua in telephone.

She said that Jakarta was still the mostly infected area with 8,632 sufferers and 59 deaths.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Prevention of the Infectious Disease under the Health Ministry, Syafei Achmad said that some 89 percent of the cumulative sufferers since January hadbeen in good conditions at present.

Syafei Achmad said that the death toll and sufferers in some provinces, such as Eastern Nusa Tenggara, Jambi and Yogyakarta, had steadily declined.

The disease hit Indonesia since Jan. 17. The fever was spread by aedes aegpty mosquito which contained the virus.
