Overseas Chinese speak with one voice against 'Taidu'
Over 1,000 overseas Chinese around the world gathered in Bangkok for the Global Overseas Chinese Congregation of Anti-Taiwan Independence and Pro-unification, calling on all Chinese compatriots to unite as one against "independence of Taiwan" (Taidu) and vowing utmost efforts for the great undertaking of China's peaceful reunification.
During the two-day meeting which opened Tuesday, overseas Chinese who live in all parts of the world outside Chinese mainland united under the banner of promoting an earlier complete reunification of China, and held in-depth discussions over the evil intentions of "referendum" on March 20 orchestrated by pro-independence forces on the island.
The delegates also exchanged views on the enormous harm posed by "Taidu" separatism to the revival of the Chinese nation, the stability of cross-Straits relations, the welfare of Taiwan compatriots and tens of millions of overseas Chinese, peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region.
With the adoption of the "Bangkok Declaration," the meeting, sponsored by the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, wrapped up Wednesday with five-point consensus as follows:
-- Uphold the one China principle;
There is only one China in the world. Taiwan has always been an integral part of China. Both Chinese mainland and Taiwan are integral parts of the same China. China's sovereignty and territorial integrity are inalienable.
-- Support peaceful reunification of China;
Utmost efforts should be exerted to realize the complete reunification of the motherland.
-- Realize reunification of China under the "one country, two systems" policy;
The "one country, two systems" policy is the most conducive to the realization of reunification across the Taiwan Straits.
-- Resolutely oppose "Taidu" separatist activities in any disguise;
Resolutely oppose the so-called "two states" description, "one country on each side", "name rectification" campaign and "referendum" about independence or reunification. Strongly oppose any attempts by Taiwan authorities to bring Taiwan to the brink of "independence".
-- Firmly object to "referendum on Taiwan's independence" and the March 20 "referendum" as well.
The "referendum" on March 20 is a plot brewed by Taiwan authorities. It is extremely aggressive, deceptive and harmful as Taiwan authorities have been preaching referendum in the name of democracy and "Taidu" in the name of referendum.
The "referendum" deserves overt condemnation as it goes against the one China principle, stirs up antinomy across the Taiwan Straits, and jeopardizes peace and stability across the Straits.
The declaration also urges the world countries to stick to the one China policy, oppose any activities aimed at splitting China, including "Taidu" and "referendum".
It reiterated appeal for all overseas Chinese to join hands in bringing to success the lofty cause of China's reunification and the great revival of the Chinese nation.
