Group comics: China's new leadership in people's eyes

"People-focused" is a change the most keenly felt by ordinary people in the past year. From President Hu Jintao's "we use power for the people, show concern for the people and work for the benefit of the people," to Premier Wen Jiabao's "to be sincere, honest, true and real"; from the aid system replacing shelter and repatriation to the implementation of workplace injury insurance rules and regulations on legal aid- all these convey the government's strong humanitarian care to people.

"People-focused" is a change the most keenly felt by ordinary people in the past year. From President Hu Jintao's "we use power for the people, show concern for the people and work for the benefit of the people," to Premier Wen Jiabao's "to be sincere, honest, true and real"; from the aid system replacing shelter and repatriation to the implementation of workplace injury insurance rules and regulations on legal aid- all these convey the government's strong humanitarian care to people.




The year 2003 can be regarded as "a year of conveniences"in the eyes of many residents. The government put forward a series of measures to bring convenience to people. Marriage registration is simplified and parents can choose from either of their residence registration places for that of their newborns, while in the past babies' residence compulsorily followed their mothers'.




Be concerned with people's lives and work hard for the people. In the past year, governments at all levels paid more and more attention to the rights and interests of common people: from cutting and lifting relevant taxes during the SARS outbreak to creating jobs for the laid-off, from including the most-discussed fields of education and medicine into anti-corruption drive to the first investigation into impoverished people in rural areas, all these actions represent the idea of "people-caring government".




We felt a kind of force during the SARS outbreak, a force from the Party and government's determination and sense of responsibility which enabled them to be closely linked with people and shoulder their tasks at crisis moments.



Since the second half of 2003, the "recovery of defaulted wage" storm started from Beijing was no doubt a blessing to the many migrant workers who labored long but received no wage. According to rough estimations by the Ministry of Construction, till Jan. 18, 2004, 22.98 billion yuan of defaulted wage has been recovered to ensure the workers a happy new year.
