Chinese paddlers make sweeping opening at World Team Championship

Defending Corbillion champion China's Women's table tennis team beat Germany 3-0 on March 1, the first day of the 47th World Table Tennis Team Championship held in Dora, capital of Qatar.

Defending Corbillion champion China's Women's table tennis team beat Germany 3-0 on March 1, the first day of the 47th World Table Tennis Team Championship held in Doha, capital of Qatar.

Meanwhile, China's men's team upset their French counterparts 3-0.

In the first round, Zhang Yining and Li Ju beat veteran French paddlers 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 12-0) and 3-1 (10-12, 11-4, 13-11, 14-12), while Wang Nan narrowly won 3-2 (11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-13, 11-8).

Wang Hao, Ma Lin and Wang Liqin beat their counterparts 3-2 (11-4, 8-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5), 3-1 (7-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-8), and 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-9).

In women's first round, South Korea nipped Russia 3-0, Singapore, Taipei China 3-1. Now China, South Korea and Singapore rank top three in Group A.

In Group B, dark horse Italy beat Japan 3-2, while Hong Kong, China beat Hungary 3-0, and Romania Belarus 3-1. Hong Kong, China now ranks first in Group B.

In Men's first round, South Korea beat Japan 3-0, Austria Italy 3-1.

In Group B, Sweden beat Russia 3-1, Germany Belgium 3-1.

China's women's team will meet Russia and Taipei, China at 15 hours and 21hours, Beijing time on March 2.

While men's team will confront with Japan at 18 hours.
