Death toll of the dengue fever across Indonesia has risen to 267 people and the sufferers increased to 15,316 people, an official of the Health Ministry said Thursday.

Death toll of the dengue fever across Indonesia has risen to 267 people and the sufferers increased to 15,316 people, an official of the Health Ministry said Thursday.

The outbreak has hit 30 provinces across the country since Jan.17 with 91 died, Jakarta was the most infected area, Secretary General of the Prevention of the Infectious Disease of the ministry Syafei Achmad said.

"The number of cases now is 15,316 sufferers, and the death toll is 267 people," Achmad told Xinhua in telephone.

Previously, he said that the death toll and sufferers in some provinces, such as the provinces of Eastern Nusa Tenggara, Jambi and Yogyakarta, had declined.

Achmad said that two provinces, which last time experienced heavy cases of suffering the disease, at this time were free from the outbreak.

Dengue fever was spread by aedes mosquitoes which contain the virus.

The attack was different from the normal five years cycle as the change of rainy season from October, November and December to the January-February, he said.
