A senior official in the health ministry, Thomas Suroso, was quoted by Detikcom online news service as saying that a total of 12,719 people in 23 of 32 provinces across the country were infected by the deadly disease.

Because the government has declared a national catastrophe, poordengue patients are entitled to treatment without charge.
