Vietnam reported additional two deaths due to flu type A infections and suspects over the weekend,raising the death toll so far to 40, the country's Health Ministryannounced on Monday afternoon.

The two victims came from the southern province of Dong Nai andthe central highlands province of Lam Dong, increasing the numbersof deaths there to three and four, respectively.
The country detected 12 more cases of flu type A infections andsuspects between Friday afternoon and Monday afternoon, bringing the total to 283. The capital city of Hanoi, its neighboring province of Ha Tay and Ho Chi Minh City still had the highest numbers of cases, with 94, 32 and 27, respectively.
Now, 85 local people, including 60 in the north and 25 in the south, are receiving treatment, the ministry said, adding that outof the 22 H5N1 infections in Vietnam, 15 have died.
As of Monday afternoon, Vietnam reported 2,571 communes of 57 cities and provinces being hit by bird flu, according to sources from the Central Veterinarian Department.
Over the past three days, the country culled 33,000 fowls, raising the total number of poultry died and culled to about 38.2 million fowls, or 15 percent of the country's poultry population.
A total of 17 localities, mainly central and southern ones, have detected no new outbreaks in their territory for at least twoweeks.
