Quarantined sites of bird flu being assessed

The national headquarters for the prevention and control of highly pathogenic avian influenza announced that no new cases of the disease were reported or confirmed across the country on Saturday.

The national headquarters for the prevention and control of highly pathogenic avian influenza announced that no new cases of the disease were reported or confirmed across the country on Saturday.

Sources from the headquarters under the Ministry of Agriculture said that relevant departments had sent teams of experts to assess the situation of quarantine at the five sites where the first confirmed cases of H5N1 strain bird flu in the country were reported.

The five sites are in Long'an County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwest China; Wuxue City of Hubei Province and WugangCity of Hunan Province, both in central China; Nanhui District of Shanghai Municipality and Yongkang City of Zhejiang Province, in east China.

The experts will decide whether the quarantine will be lifted after the evaluation according to relevant standards.
