Of the patients, who come from 36 cities and provinces, 38 havedied, 107 remained hospitalized, and 126 recovered, the country's Health Ministry announced on Friday afternoon.
The latest locality reporting its first case of flu type A infections or suspects is the southern province of Binh Duong.
The patient from the province is under treatment in the Ho Chi Minh City-based Cho Ray Hospital, said the ministry.
Over the past 24 hours, Vietnam detected only one new commune, in the northern province of Thai Binh, being stricken by bird flu, and culled 47,000 fowls. To date, over 38.1 million poultry, or 15percent of the country's fowl population, in 2,570 communes of 57 localities have either died or been killed.
