Ambassador Dr. Klaus Ebermann, head of the European Commission Delegation in China and Ambassador Declan Connolly of Ireland to China and also present rotating European Union (EU) president, said on Feb. 17 that the relations between EU and China are developing steadily toward an all-around partnership and now are on a stable track.
The two made the remarks at the annual meeting on European situation jointly held by the Institute of European Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Chinese Association for European Studies on Feb. 17.
Dr. Klaus Ebermann said that EU would push forward cooperative relations with China in an all-around way in terms of political dialogue, trade cooperation, scientific cooperation and exchanges. Ambassador Mr. Declan Connolly noted, Ireland would in its term as EU president, strengthen the coordination among EU countries and promote the EU's lifting the ban of military sales against China.
At the meeting, experts held academic discussions on the European situation, Sino-European relations etc. They held that Europe is not only a force rising again but also a force not all the same with the United States in terms of structure and property. Europe, in order to protect and develop itself, will not only cooperate with traditional allies but will also have differences and frictions with them. The cooperation and frictions between Europe and the United States will not only continue to happen among the countries but will also happen in different fields and levels transcending the boundaries. People should not make simple comments on US-European relations but should make in-depth comparisons in terms of politics, economy, culture and security etc. to get concrete answers for problems.
