Qurei denies reports that he thinks to resign

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei denied on Tuesday reports saying that he threatened to resign from his post due to disputes with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat over reforms in the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), the Palestinian Radio reported.

Qurei was quoted to reporters that "these reports are totally untrue," adding that "why suddenly do these roamers emerge now."

"I'm the prime minister now, and I'm doing my job as a prime minister in order to fulfill my cabinet's programs that I presented before the Palestinian parliament," Qurei stressed.

Qurei's office also issued a statement saying that the prime minister, who is on a tour in several European countries, considers such untrue news that are spread here and there "as part of the campaign that targets the Palestinian government, which has firm stands towards the annexation and confiscation and the policy of isolation."

Qurei's European tour aims at explaining the current situation in the Palestinian territories in an accurate way to the European leaders, the statement said, adding he is planning to explain that the Israeli policy of confiscation and imposing hard and tough measures against the Palestinians is totally rejected.

Earlier on Tuesday, media reports have said that Qurei is thinking to resign due to disagreements emerged recently between him and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

Well-informed Palestinian sources, who spoke in condition of anonymity, were quoted as saying the recent disagreements emerged between Qurei and Arafat during the last weekly meeting of the cabinet over carrying out more reforms within the PNA different institutions.

Qurei get angry when Arafat told him that he rejects making any reforms in the PNA and informed several ministers that he might resign if disagreements on the issue of reforms continue.
