Chinese exporters are expecting to resume export of prepared poultry products to Japan as the two countries have reached a common understanding on the quarantining of those products, a leading Chinese exporter said Tuesday.

China has provided the Japanese Government with a list of qualified poultry-raising companies which have passed strict quarantine measures, according to Wang Jinyou, president of the poultry branch of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-products.

China and Japan have just ended bilateral talks on China's exports of poultry products to Japan, said Wang, who participated in the talks.

The Japanese side is expected to send experts to China soon to review those companies, Wang said.

"If everything goes well, we will resume exports of prepared fowl products to Japan as early as from March," said Wang, who is also president of the Zhucheng City Foreign Trade Group, China's largest poultry exporter.

More than 40 countries and regions have banned imports of Chinese poultry products since the bird flu epidemic was first reported on Jan. 27 on the Chinese mainland.
