The Communist Party of China (CPC) will enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation with the London-based Socialist International (SI) and its member parties, said General Secretary of CPC Central Committee Hu Jintao Tuesday in Beijing.
At a meeting with a delegation from the SI headed by its President Antonio Guterres, Hu, also Chinese president, said the CPC attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with all parties and political organizations in the world.
In the spirit of seeking mutual understanding and cooperation, the CPC would put aside ideological differences, develop friendly relations and enhance cooperation with the SI and the country it is based by clinging to the principle of independence, equality and mutual respect, non-interference with internal affairs of each side.
The CPC expects to exchange views on the issues of common concern and enhance understanding with the SI and its member parties, Hu said.
China is ready to further develop relations with the countries where SI member parties are located. he said.
Guterres commended China's achievements and said China's reunification and development constituted an important factor in establishing a balanced, stable and multi-polar world and significant conditions for settling global issues.
The SI would adhere to the principled one-China stance and opposed any words or actions aimed at splitting China, and continue to promote friendly exchanges and cooperation with the CPC.
The SI, founded in 1864, is the world's oldest and largest association of political parties, grouping democratic socialist, labor and social democratic parties from every continent.
