Iran to sell nuclear fuel on int'l market

Iran will sell processed nuclear fuel to foreign countries in a bid to show its ability in the nuclear energy technology despite mounting US pressure, a senior Foreign Ministry official said in Tehran on Sunday.
Iran would market its nuclear fuel under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which recently found that the country's hidden nuclear energy program could be used to make materials for nuclear bombs.
However, Iran has not sold any enriched uranium for producing nuclear energy although it has the technology, said the official while explaining remarks by Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi on Friday.
Kharazi told Iran's official IRNA news agency that Iran, with the potential ability to produce nuclear fuel, was ready to sell them on the international market. But he said that the Iranian government would cooperate with the IAEA.
The United States thinks that Iran was running a secret nuclear program to build nuclear weapons, a claim rejected by Tehran. Officials here said that Iran's nuclear program was peaceful and only for the production of nuclear energy.
Tehran agreed last October to accept frequent inspections of its nuclear facilities and suspected process of enriched uranium by the IAEA.
