Official punishment for drug-taking footballer

The China Football Association has announced its punishment for the first soccer player in China caught using performance enhancing drugs.

The China Football Association has announced its punishment for the first soccer player in China caught using performance enhancing drugs.

Zhang Shuai, 22 year old defender with the Beijing Hyundai team has been banned for six months until May 21st this year.

Manager Yang Zuwu and the team's doctor have received six month suspensions plus five thousand RMB yuan fines.

In addition, the club and local football watchdog have received warnings. The club also has to foot a bill of fourteen thousand yuan before next month.

The player tested positive in a doping test after a league match in China's Division A last November.

He had already been banned for three months by the club and fined 50,000 yuan, or 6,000 US dollars.
