The US federal commission probing the Sept. 11 attacks will meet Condoleezza Rice, the presidential security adviser, on Feb. 7.

Rice, who would meet the commission at the White House, would be the highest administration official to be interviewed by commission, which said it wanted to question Rice about what the government knew about potential terrorist attacks against the country in 2001, a press report said.

Rice said in May 2002 that there was no indication that terrorists were planning suicide hijackings in the United States, but reports later revealed that intelligence had suggested the possibility one month before the attacks.

The commission, set up in late 2002 to examine security-related issues before the attacks and response afterward and to make recommendations on guarding against future attacks, is also trying to have hearings with President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore.
