No agreement reached on date for Sharon-Qurei summit: paper

Israeli and Palestinian officials who met on Feb. 4 failed to agree on a date for the summit between Ariel Sharon and Ahmed Qurei, local newspaper Ha'aretz reported Thursday.

Israeli and Palestinian officials who met on Feb. 4 failed to agree on a date for the summit between Ariel Sharon and Ahmed Qurei, local newspaper Ha'aretz reported Thursday.

Dov Weisglass, Sharon's bureau chief, met for the sixth time with his Palestinian counterpart, Hassan Abu Libdeh, Wednesday to prepare for the summit.

A senior Palestinian source told Ha'aretz that "there are serious differences of opinion between us with regard to the content and definition of the issues on the agenda for the meeting between the parties."

"One should not place high hopes on the meeting between Sharon and Abu Ala (Qurei's alias)."

Another preparatory meeting would probably be held next week after Weisglass returns from talks in Washington about Sharon's disengagement plan, the source said.

In any event, there was little likelihood of a summit in the next two weeks, he added.
