The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government is currently taking various measures to valorize eggs and avoid panic buying on the market which was triggered by the bird flu situation around Asia.
Due to the outbreak of bird flu in some Asian countries and regions, some of them being Macao's egg providers, the price of egg in the SAR has seen a hike since late January, reaching 2.5 patacas per unit, six times the normal price.
Concerned departments of the Macao SAR government have approved the importing of eggs from uncontaminated regions of China's mainland with veterinarian's bill of health after quarantine checkup. Meanwhile, some businessmen are busy looking for egg providers from the SAR.
It is estimated that the first batch of eggs from uncontaminated regions will arrive in Macao in one or two days, which will meet the need of the Macao residents who demand some 20tons of eggs per day.
The Commission of Macao's Customers also called on egg shops to keep the egg price stable and persuaded the residents out of scare buying.
