Vietnam records more flu type A patients, suspects

Vietnam has detected 76 cases of flu type A infections and suspects since Oct. 7, 2003, of whom 22 died by the end of Monday, local newspaper Youth quoted the Health Ministry as saying on Tuesday.

Vietnam has detected 76 cases of flu type A infections and suspects since Oct. 7, 2003, of whom 22 died by the end of Monday, local newspaper Youth quoted the Health Ministry as saying on Tuesday.

Ho Chi Minh City alone received a total of 30 patients, of whom19 come from the city, and 11 from its neighboring localities. Of the hospitalized cases in the city, four have been infected with H5N1, of whom two have died.

By Monday, the country had 26 cases of flu type A infections. Samples of other suspects are being tested by the ministry, in coordination with the World Health Organization and the US Center for Disease Control.

Meanwhile, bird flu spread to 882 communes of 208 districts of 48 local cities and provinces, including localities in all northern, southern, and central regions.
