Japan, US, South Korea asking for six-nation talks
Japan, the United States and South Korea have asked the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to agree to convene a second round of six-nation talks this month, Kyodo News reported Tuesday.

Japan asked the DPRK via China about the possibility of a February meeting on the nuclear issue, Kyodo said. The six-nation talks involve the DPRK, the United States, China, Japan, South Korea and Russia.
According to Kyodo, the DPRK's response is yet unavailable, butthe parties are trying to realize the proposal, .
Mitoji Yabunaka, head of the Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, met visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs James Kelly and discussedthe timing of a second six-nation meeting.
Kelly and Yabunaka led the US and Japanese delegations, respectively, at the first round of six-nation talks in Beijing inAugust.
US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage said Monday the next round of six-party talks will hopefully be held soon.
"I've just come from Beijing," Armitage said at a news conference in Tokyo. "And I think it's fair to say that both the Chinese and US sides are quite hopeful the talks will take place soon."
