A series of explosions rocked acrowded Baghdad neighborhood Saturday night just on the eve of Eidal-Adha, or Feast of the Sacrifice, a major Muslim festival, killing six people, witnesses and hospital source said.

Local witnesses said that the blasts were made by mortar attackand at least six people were killed and some 15 people were wounded in the blasts.

The US military gave no immediate comment on the incident, which highlighted the concern of escalated violence in the run-up to Iraq's first Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday under occupation.

Media reports said the blasts hit the Baladiyyat neighborhood where more than 1,300 Palestinian refugee families live, and someof the victims came from one family.

The blasts, accompanied by gunfire, came after a suicide car bombing at a police station in northern city of Mosul killed nineand a roadside bomb attack on a US convoy resulted in three combatdeaths.

US and Iraqi officials had warned that insurgents could wagemore attacks during the traditional festival of Eid, marking the end of Hajj, or the massive pilgrimage in the Muslim world.

Similar occurrence had been witnessed during previous holidays, like the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
