Jeffrey A. Sheehan, associate dean of international relations of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, is visiting Shanghai ahead of the Wharton Global Alumni Forum to be staged in June in China.

Established in 1881 and considered one of the best business schools in the world, Wharton has over 75,000 alumni around the world. The theme of the forum is "connect".

He will also strengthen ties with the Chinese government and the business community.

Since the first Master of Business Management (MBA) programs began in China in 1991, the degree has become very popular, despite its high cost, 200,000 yuan (24,000 U.S. dollars).

So far, some 87 institutes of China offer MBA programs and 32 offer executive MBA (EMBA) programs.

Over 86,000 people had enrolled in MBA programs by September 2003 and 4,000 participated in EMBA courses.
