China's southern metropolis Guangzhou is inviting the public to contribute opinions and views on the city's bid for hosting the 2010 Asian Games.
The municipal government encourages citizens to set forth theirviews on the notion, slogans, standards and logo for the 16th Asian Games the city is bidding to host. The views would go through appraisal by the relevant specialists and incorporated into the bidding efforts.
Hu Dehai, a municipal culture bureau official who is directing the views solicitation, said the city is in urgent need of innovative and impressive expressions that explicitly depicts the value of the Asian Games, the unique culture of Guangzhou city and its interaction with elsewhere in China and Asia and the world at large. Contributors of useful ideas would be rewarded with prizes ranging from 1,000 yuan (about 120 US dollars) to 20,000 yuan (some 2,400 dollars). The deadline for submitting ideas is set for Feb. 3.
The State Council, or China's central government, has officially approved Guangzhou's application to bid for the hosting right of the 2010 Asian Games.
