Short phone message revenue hits 11 billion yuan in first ten months of 2003

Chinese mobile phone users sent 110 billion short messages during the first ten months of 2003, creating 11 billion yuan of revenue.

Chinese mobile phone users sent 110 billion short messages during the first ten months of 2003, creating 11 billion yuan of revenue.

Liu Manqiang, vice director of the Information Research Centerunder the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said short message created a profitable market for mobile telecommunications businesses. The 11 billion yuan in revenue does not include other services, such as ring tone and joke downloads.

According to Beijing Mobile Telecommunication Ltd., its clients sent more than 100 million messages on the eve of the Lunar New Year, 50 percent more than the previous year.
