Bush's State of Union address draws criticism from Democrats
US Democrats Tuesday criticized the State of the Union address of President George W. Bush, saying it covered a reality of lost jobs, increasing deficits and rising casualties in Iraq.
US Democrats Tuesday criticized the State of the Union address of President George W. Bush, saying it covered a reality of lost jobs, increasing deficits and rising casualties in Iraq.
The Democrats, who are seeking to oust Bush out of the White House, pointed out that US deficits was drawing close to 500 billion US dollars and a total of 2.3 million jobs have been lost since Bush took office. They also accused the president of failingto form a broad international coalition in Iraq.
Top two Democrats in Congress made official responses to Bush'sspeech. They said Bush has not made enough efforts to shield America from terrorists and improve economy of the country.
House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi criticized Bush's go-it-alone foreign policy that makes the country isolated and steals resources needed for education and health care.
US taxpayers had to bear almost all the cost and the troops were enduring almost all the casualties, said Pelosi.
Senator John Kerry, who just won the Democratic presidential caucus in Iowa on Monday night, also said that Bush talked about how he wants to help people find jobs, but he stood by for three years while more jobs were lost than at any time since the Great Depression .
Bush "still doesn't understand what's happening in living roomsacross this country," Kerry added.
