Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu visited rural families in Fengning autonomous county of Manchu ethnic group, north China's Hebei province, on Jan. 18 and 19 to extend festive greetings in the run-up to Spring Festival, the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Jan. 22 this year.

The official, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, showed his concern for local residents.

During his discussions with grassroots rural officials and ordinary farmers, he referred to the past year as a year of great success for China's agriculture and rural development.

As the present task for the country's agriculture production and rural work remained arduous, down-to-earth work style is preferred and concrete help should be given to farmers so as to enable them to increase farm yield and raise their income, Hui said.

In recent days, officials from the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee have visited aged or poverty-stricken farmers and CPC members to distribute money, food and other daily necessities.

Meanwhile, He Guoqiang, head of the Organization Department and a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, personally visited families of noted scientists.
