China Sunday reiterated its opposition to Japanese leaders' visits to the Yasukuni shrine, saying the Chinese people will never accept this faithless act.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan made the remarks on Sunday in response to the Japanese ruling Liberal Democratic Party's decision to continue to visit Yasukuni Shrine in the year 2004.

Kong pointed out that taking history as a mirror and looking towards the future is the only correct view of history. He said China hopes that the Japanese government can keep its promise to reflect on its history of aggression and earn the trust of its Asian neighbours and the international community with concrete actions.

The Yasukuni shrine, erected in the mid-19th century, honors 14 Class-A World War II criminals.
