Spring Festival get-together held in China's capital

A get-together was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Sunday evening to greet the upcoming Spring Festival, the traditional Lunar New Year, which starts on Jan. 22 this year.

A get-together was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Sunday evening to greet the upcoming Spring Festival, the traditional Lunar New Year, which starts on Jan. 22 this year.

Among the 10,000 audience were Zeng Qinghong and Li Changchun, both members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee, as well as other officials including Liu Qi, Liu Yunshan, Guo Boxiong, Wang Gang, Xu Caihou, Hua Jianmin, and Chen Zhili.

Artists from civilian and military troupes performed songs, dances and acrobatics, which drew applause from the audience.

In the evening, there were also other recreational activities at the gathering.
